 | | | Techlab #35 Q&A-2 | | | Q - I am prepping to do a boost up on my '92 Eagle Talon. The engine has been lightly freshened and broke in good so I want to turn it up. I have some basic bolt-ons, including a better fuel pump. Money is tight these days I would like to know what you think about the manual versus electronic boost controller saga?

| UR Tech Lab Q&A-Techlab #35 Q&A-1 Q- Are there any advantages to using alcohol injection on the streets in my daily driven turbo car? How much horsepower can I expect?

| UR Tech Lab Q&A-Techlab #34 Q&A-2 Q- I have been struggling with my 13B rotary engine and need some help with my FD RX-7. The engine has aftermarket carbon seals inside and a single-turbo system outside. I have tried to maintain a certain level of legality; it runs stock cats and all the emission equipment under the hood. The problem is my data logging shows the engine going lean when the boost is really turned up. I am able to catch it and get off the gas before anything happens on the dyno. I have done fuel addition, tweaked the timing and checked the ignition system but I can't eliminate the problem without killing power. Having done the obvious I am wondering if there are any 'out there' angles I am missing?

| UR Tech Lab Q&A-Techlab #34 Q&A-1 Q- I roll a 1985 Corolla. It's a GTS with a five-speed. I want to drop the car and enhance the handling but I am really confused when it comes to spring rates and how they translate into performance on the street and at autocross events. Can you help me clear the air about this? 12/1/2008 - Full Article

| UR Tech Lab Q&A-Techlab #33 Q&A-2 Q- I just got a 2007 Mustang GT and I love its raw, retro looks and big V8. I want more power. Some of the ideas being thrown my direction include the usual bolt-ons with some serious headwork, cams and adding a supercharger. I am concerned about how the ECU will react. Will it make the most of my mods or will I have to chase the power down with some king of engine management scheme? Cost is a concern. -Josh K. 11/14/2008 - Full Article

| UR Tech Lab Q&A-Techlab #33 Q&A-1 Q- I've found a surprisingly straight and clean SR5 coupe (AE86) for $500. I have read up about converting to GTS specs and personally think it's too much time and money for to spend on the car right now. But what do you all think about this option to make a cheap 'fun' car? Adding Koni shocks and lowering springs, a 16V MR2 block with dual sidedraft carbs and a Celica Supra rear end to get the LSD. A friend told me I could swap in the rearend and get a stronger set-up. Will that work? Basically I'd like to keep it as cheap as possible, have around 100 horsepower, LSD and decent brakes. It's just a little beater to have some fun on a daily basis. What do you suggest about brakes and LSD for the rear and keep it cheap and simple? Will brake upgrade kits for the GTS fit on the SR5? I know the brake lines and stuff will have to be redone, but what about the spindles and such on the front? What do you think?

| UR Tech Lab Q&A-Techlab #32 Q&A-1 Q - I have a '92 Civic LX with a five-speed and the 1.5-liter D Series 'engine.' I want to replace it. First because it burns a lot of oil and second because it's so anemic. I know there are a ton of choices for the EG. I'm looking for something that fits my driving style. Ninety percent of my driving is around town, with the occasional autocross and mountain run thrown in for good measure. Rarely, will I even hit the drag strip. I want good low- to mid-range power, reliability and low cost. Would you recommend a CR-V-tec B20 hybrid, a B18 or a B16? Thanks!

| UR Tech Lab Q&A-Techlab #31 Q&A-1 Q-I am hesitant to ask this because it seems so simple but my friends could not give me a confident answer. People always call the turbo on an Evo a 'twin scroll' what does that mean? And why is it good?

| UR Tech Lab Q&A-Techlab #29 Q&A-2 Q - I have pursued the pursuit of perfection all the way into an IS350. The car is plush but I am regretting it not having a Sport package. I am wondering what kind of custom touches are available for the IS? 7/25/2008 - Full Article

Thanks for your ball bearing tech article. It was great with a lot of useful info. There is a good deal of emphasis put on ball bearing designed but what is the difference between a ball bearing and a regular bearing? I mean what do they look like? I mean I wouldn't know either one of them if they sat in my lap and called me Daddy. 7/11/2008 - Full Article
