It was probably too hot to be hanging out at a car show in the middle of the day on Saturday, August 29. The outside temp gauge in our air-conditioned ride was reading over 100 degrees when we pulled into the parking lot at Seibon headquarters in Walnut, Calif.
Still, this is Seibon we're talking about here, arguably the largest distributor of carbon-fiber parts for the tuner segment, and apparently plenty of other segments as well. From our vantage point in the car, we could see a 997 GT3 RS and an F430 sitting at one of the entrances to the show. We could also see thick plumes of smoke rising from the brush fires in the hills just north of Seibon.
The cars were incentive enough. We sucked it up and entered the ashy furnace.
After a few minutes in the heat, it wasn't so bad, particularly with the eye candy Seibon invited to its Customer Appreciation event. The show featured everything from race cars to exotics, including a super rare Qvale Mangusta. The spectrum also consisted of reps from all of the JDM marques, plus a few Euro, KDM and USDM entries as well. And a ton of Ruckuses.
The affair was designed as a meet and greet for Seibon's sponsored cars and vendors, and along with the hundreds of cars that came, RETAKS had a BMX demo that included an impromptu flatland session by drifting team principal Ron Bergenholtz.
Bergenholtz wasn't the only drifting personality at the event; Ron was joined by drivers Chris Forsberg, Joon Maeng and Alex Pfeiffer, who each had a vehicle in the show. Maeng brought out his Maxxis S13.5 240SX, Pfeiffer his Battle Version/Rotora Lexus SC, and Formula D points leader Forsberg rocked both his NOS Energy Drink V8-powered competition 350Z Roadster and SR-motivated Z coupe demo car.
Sam Hubinette's NuFormz Viper, Tanner Foust's Rockstar tC, Ryuji Miki's A'PEXi FD RX-7 and Eric O'Sullivan's Rockstar STI were also spotted on display.
We loved the show, especially the diversity of cars exhibited. The weather - not so much. Check out the gallery to see the roasting in action.
