Two weeks ago on the East Coast, disciples of the tuning ethos and their fans hit Ocean City, Maryland, for a grand exhibition, the OC Custom Car & Bike Show. This past Saturday, August 15, it was York, Pennsylvania's turn, as the city hosted the fourth annual Tuner Evolution, another indoor/outdoor show-n-shine this time based in and around the Toyota Arena.
To call Tuner Evolution just another car show is a bit of a misnomer, though, because like the Ocean City gig, TE is so much more. In addition to the vehicular displays, TE also featured a burnout contest, car stereo competition, and a mobile dynamometer provided by Keith's Pit Stop. Further entertainment supplements included a bikini contest, the Anti-Team Motorcycle Stunt Crew, skateboarding demo, and the always engrossing Hooters Wing Eating competition.
Among the aisles of manicured whips we spied plenty of hotness, like Jeremy's EVO X (apologies for the first name only - our photog didn't get last names). The latest edition of Mitsubishi's rally-bred AWD machine provided eye candy from within - like the Takata harnesses and AMS harness bar - and without - like the Varis canards and ISS Forged wheels. Jeremy also touched the engine bay with more AMS love, such as the intercooler and charge plumbing.
Andrew's turbo RSX Type-S was another smokin' ride that lit up our lives, primarily with its Infiniti Q45 projector headlights adapted to JDM housings. Body elements come from C-West, Aspec and Mugen, and the DC5 is shoed in 18-inch diamond black Volk TE37s that partly conceal a forward Type One Racing big brake kit. Interior highlights include Status Racing Ring GT bucket seats and a Personal steering wheel.
While the aftermarket is still getting populated with grip for the GTR, we have yet to grow tired of the car or its limited modifying options. Richie's Nissan, rocking just a few mods like an Endless big brake kit, BBS rollers and Amuse exhaust, was still turning heads at Tuner Evolution.
Wes' Project Mu-themed 350Z wasn't just a platform for the aftermarket company's big brake kit; the owner also got the car painted in Project Mu colors. The look is sharpened with a Do-Luck wide-body kit, carbon-fiber hood, roof and trunk, and 19-inch Volk SF Challenge rims.
Bravo to Tuner Evolution for another great event. Browse through our gallery to see what else was there, and for info on future TEs check out www.tuner-evolution.com/.
