Well, here it is - what we’ve all been waiting for, Round 1, the event that sets off the Formula Drift Summer Camp.

Formula Drift “summer camp” because all of the drivers, teams and sponsors love the comradely that just happens between everybody. Yes, the knives come out on track - but off the track it’s a great vibe and fun loving environment that keeps everybody looking forward to the next event.

Streets of Long Beach - what an amazing venue, we were literally on the blacktop battling it out toe-to-toe. The Champ Cars that are heading around the track next weekend are going to have some serious fast sections through turns 9, 10 and 11. (You’re welcome Champ Car!)

By now, you might have heard the winners and seen clips and what not; but here it is: Samuel Hubinette sat atop the podium, followed by Rhys, and Dai rounding out the last podium spot! There were amazing battles, crashes and spectacles of driving - especially by Tanner Foust and Hiro Sumida. These 2 guys showed what you can do with two really different vehicles.

Hiro, slammed the walls (sorry Hiro) - I mean he really smashed it up good enough to where it was very boomerang-ish looking. YET, he still put it down and qualified into the Top 8 even! Amazing!

Then there was Tanner Foust in the brand-spanking new AEM 350Z that AEM definitely got dialed in a very short amount of time. His driving was just shy of being of perfect on some of his qualifying runs - in a car he hardly had any seat time in. Hats off to Tanner and Hiro for being given tough situations and making it happen!

I just can’t wait to re-visit the infamous “Horseshoe” of ATL! See you in the South you’ll be able to find me and the Pacific Rim Team at the Waffle House right near the track.
